It is hard to believe that soon kids will be out of school and we parents will be wondering what to do when we hear for the 20th time “I’m bored, I don’t have anything to do.”

Some parents who are working away from home might also need new arrangements for full time daycare.

We have in our community many options to help the “boredom syndrome”. If your child is in scouting of course your first place to turn to is the local as well as away from home scouting camps. Check with your scout leadership for what activities will be available here and elsewhere. You are not bound to sending your child with your troop. They can participate in camps independently of their troop both in boys or girl scouts programs.

Time to register is now.

Many churches will be holding day camps as well and the first place to look is of course your own place of worship, but do not discount other churches as well. While many might give preference to their own members they will (space being available) welcome your children.

Googols of Learning Child Development Center here in Lawrence is a full time  year round child care center, that provides additional summer activities.  They are now enrolling School-Age Summer Camps for children 6-12 years old.  Campers are welcome to enroll by-the-week or full time through the summer.  Summer term begins June 1st.  Googols of Learning is open 7 am – 6 pm daily.

This summer’s campers will be engaged with a variety of activities on-site as well as numerous field trips from swimming and museums to bowling, picnics, local tours and more.  On site activities include indoor and outdoor play and learning. They can be contacted at

Many programs will also be offered for children of all ages at the Lawrence Public library.

Please remember to register now.

If you are aware of any programs that are going on, or if you have a program you would like for me to publicize please send me the details, I will be happy to promote what you do to help kids and parents in our community.
